There are two types of people who practice magic. The first type is the traditionalist. These are the people who are normally initiated in some type of African religion or practice. The second type are the mystics. Mystics don’t believe in a single path. They tend to be eclectic and are known to be the proverbial spiritual free lancers. Both are very capable of doing magic. However, they have different ways of going about it. So in this article, I am going to thoroughly explain the two different categories. This way, you can decide which one you fit into.

The Creation of the Voodoo Witch?

People believe that Voodoo is really a caricature of different African religions and magical practices. For centuries there has been a smear campaign that cast Voodoo and many of its practitioners in a negative light. Highly sensationalized Voodoo rituals have been displayed on televisions all throughout the world, thanks to Hollywood. And Voodoo has become a belief system that is so highly stigmatized that it is only practiced in secret. It is common knowledge to think that Voodoo is very primitive. However, Voodoo is incredibly progressive, because it mimics the ebb and flow of nature. While other practices work based on beliefs, Voodoo practitioners work based on natural laws that have remained consistent since the earth’s creation.

How Does Voodoo Work?

Voodoo has become a catch-all phrase to describe anything that is spooky, kinky, scary, or weird. In a nutshell, society has programmed us to be afraid of anything that is foreign and unknown. However, that is exactly what Voodoo is. It is the exploration of the unknown. Over the years it has become our nature to conform. Instinctively, we don’t want to make any kind of drastic changes, because we are afraid for our safety. There is a certain comfort in having a routine. However, we can only grow through exploration. We can only grow when we do things differently. This is a big problem for a lot of people, because it is scary to swim out in unchartered waters. Also, you’re going to make mistakes, and yes, you’re going to struggle. Most importantly, you’re going to come up against opposing entities or spirits who will derail your mission and stop you from getting ahead.

Is Voodoo Evil?

The ancient Egyptians believe that the world was divided into two spheres, the plane of the living, and the plane of the dead.  The plan of the dead was of course called the Underworld, where all kinds of spirits and demons lay. However, in order for a Pharaoh or priest to be resurrected, they had to go through the Underworld. In Greek Mythology, it was Hades who ruled the underworld. Any one who dare visit the Underworld needed to go through a labyrinth of tunnels, jigsaw puzzles of torture, and fire pits that induce pain and suffering. Both the Greeks and the Ancient Egyptians painted the Underworld as a cruel and ugly place that we all have to go through, to be resurrected. This same concept applies to enlightenment. We have to go through the darkness in order to get to the light. So evil is just an opposing force that we have to overcome to become stronger.

Traditionalist tend to Favor Voodoo Rituals

There are Voodoo rituals in the form of initiations. Ifa, Santeria, Candomblé, and Lukumi, all have specific initiations. In essence, these religions have mastered ancestral magic. What does that mean? It means that when you become initiated into these religions, you become much stronger. We all have our ancestors’ memories inside of us, but because of programming, we don’t always have access to them. So when you become initiated, your Godfather or Godmother will flip the switch, granting you access to many of the dormant powers, memories, and energies inside of you. You also have access to your Godfather and Godmother’s energies. So you can work under the tutelage of experienced priest and priestess who can give both structure and knowledge. Furthermore, the power is magnified if your Godparent has a great deal of godchildren. The law of nature is that people are just more powerful when they’re in big groups. Perhaps the best thing about being a traditionalist is that the rituals are very effective. All the kinks and bugs have been worked out before the information is passed down to posterity. What does this mean? It means that traditionalist work more like scientist. They understand that a certain behavior is going to bring about a certain result. So they tend to make very little mistakes.  

Mystics are the Voodoo Witchdoctors

I talk to so many people who tell me that Voodoo is all about getting people to believe. This has created a world of dissimulation, trickery, and deception. That’s not what Voodoo is about. Voodoo isn’t about the belief. It is about the surrender. Old shamans and witchdoctors understood that ninety-five percent of the universe was covered in darkness. What does that mean? It means that our knowledge as humans is incredibly limited. It means that even if we study for years, we still only have access to just five percent of what the universe has to offer. The other ninety-five percent is floating out in the universe. We can only have access to this energy if we surrender. However, in order for us to access this energy, we have to forego our identity and ego. This is incredibly difficult to do for many people because they don’t want to feel like they’re losing control. I suppose this is why the spiritual possession is so scary to a lot of people.

The universe is one big cloud.

My brother was recently shopping for a new computer. He told me that he wanted to by something with a lot of storage space. This is when I had to explain to him that we live in the 21^st century. You don’t need to have a computer with storage space.  You can just store everything into the cloud. You don’t have to write anything down, you don’t have to memorize anything. Everything is stored in the cloud! This same concept applies to our universe. Everything is stored in the darkness. All the information from our ancestors is there, all you need to do is access it. But before you can access it, you have to trust and then surrender. Naturally, the mystics and traditionalist are not in categories that are mutually exclusive. There are some traditionalists who are also mystics and vice versa. However, if you’re just starting, the best thing for you to do is to work with someone who can give you guidance and structure. Then, once you have that guidance and structure, you can go off, become a mystic and start channeling the earth’s great energies all by yourself!

Difference between Spirituality and Religion: from a Hoodoo Worker’s Perspective.

If you were to ask me this question about a decade ago, I probably would have given you some New Age Bullshit, blanket answer. I would have said something like spirituality is about love, while religion is about control and manipulation. Or, I would have said that spirituality is a distillation of all the religions of the world. Or, I would have said something much more cornier, like spirituality is the destination and religion is the journey. Today, I am going to quote from the original spiritually incorrect mystic and tell you that both spirituality and religion, are all about power!

What is spirituality?

Spiritualist is the New Age, yuppie hoodoo worker. I am always amazed when some yuppie, living in Soho wants to school me on spirituality. They want to teach me about the law of attraction, manifesting, and the power of intention. They have no idea that my ancestors were cooking up Hoodoo spells in their kitchens, while their grandparents were hauled off to Sunday school. What’s my point? My point is that it is all the same shit. My ancestors called it Hoodoo and Voodoo, and now today, it’s called spirituality. Only now, they’ve incorporated Yoga, veganism, and vegetarianism into the mix.

What does spirituality mean?

Before we can define spirituality, we need to understand religion. First we need to understand that religion is a melting pot. I know, people are under the illusion that spirituality is the melting pot, but that’s not true. So how does this melting pot work? Well, just imagine this. Imagine people from all walks of life, coming together and putting their money into one huge pot. We know that a lot of immigrants come to America and pull their money together. Then, they each take turns withdrawing the money to buy a house or business. This same concept applies to religions.

Mystics have the spiritual belief that we all need power/energy to manifest prosperity, love and good health.

Now, people can’t all take money out at the same time, because then, the religion will go bankrupt. And the religion has to constantly ensure that they’re putting more and more money/energy into the pot. This will ensure that their religion will continue to grow.

This is also the reason why “religions” such as Scientology recruit movie stars and people with a mixture of power and influence. The more power/energy the better. A great deal of religions work much like a lottery. This means that an individual will have to “pray to pay.”  What does this mean? It means that they’re going to have to keep putting that energy into the pot, and wait for a pay out. Some of these religions have billions upon billions of people. So it could take a while for people to get their energy. This is the reason why some people pray for years and years and not see any results. While, others can pray for two days, and receive results almost instantly. This is not a bad setup, so as long as you’re putting something into the pot, you’ll get something back. However, there is just one problem? You have greedy clergymen who are skimming off the top. So instead of a person, getting a 100 percent payout of energy, they might get 75%  50%, even 25% of their energy. This is perhaps the reason why a great deal of people throughout the world live in poverty. They simply aren’t getting enough power/energy to manifest their desires. Hell, the energy that they’re getting is not enough to cover their basic needs.

What it means to be spiritual and not religious?

Spiritual people don’t need to adhere to these rules, because they don’t belong to a particular religion. This allows them to pull energy from different sectors or clusters as needed. They can even pull energy from ancient religions. For example, many spiritualist works with energy systems such as the chakra system, many holistic healers work with Chinese healing modalities such as acupuncture, while others work Ayurveda herbs. However, there is one big problem. You got to know how to work with these energies. Not all energies are compatible with one another. Furthermore, you never know if you’re going to get enough energy from one energy source to get the job done. So being spiritual can produce inconsistent results. So what can a spiritualist do to remedy this problem. They need to take a page out of the Hoodoo worker’s book.

Our ancestors have been through this before.

They knew that they weren’t going to get enough energy from one religion to cast spells. So they had to figure out another way to incorporate other types of energies to make their magic work. So they incorporated Native American folk magic, Christianity, and they continued to pull energy from indigenous Western African religions such as Yoruba and Vodun. Through trial and error, they were able to create different variations that helped people heal. They created root work and magic that enabled our ancestors to heal. In fact, I don’t think that people of color would have survived without them.

The Spirituality definition of the future.

We have to learn how to work with these energies. This way, we won’t only be able to have the power to manifest our own desires, but other people’s desires as well. By mastering the mixtures of energies, we can send energy to the poorest parts of the world, where people, many of which are black, are poor and starving. The next step for the spiritualist is to use our power to free people from the new form of slavery, the institution of religion.

This is the chakra that connects you to the earth. If it is corroded with suppressed sexual energy, you’re not going to be able to get the energy that you need to become powerful. Think about a rocket ship. It needs so much fuel to get up in the air. However, once it’s in the air, it’s smooth sailing. The energy that works through your root chakra works very much the same way. It gives you all the fuel that you need to launch into positions of power.  So what does this mean? It means that you’re never going to have the power necessary to climb the steps to enlightenment. Why should you care? Well, you should care because once you reach the higher levels of enlightenment; you’ll no longer have to worry about using your own energy. You can use the energy from the universe.  This energy translates into power, and this means that you’ll be able to have virtually any woman that you want.

How can you tap into this power?

Everything in our cosmic universe is created by sound.

How does sound work?  

Sound works based on frequency and decibels.  Resonance is the vibrational frequency of an object, and frequency and decibels create cycles of sound.  So we can hear sound based on how fast the waves move, slower waves create deeper sounds, faster waves create higher sound. On average, an adult can hear sounds that has from 16 to 16000 wave cycles.  While children can hear up to 18000 sound wave cycles. As you can see our ability to hear sound diminishes as we get older. Even if we can’t hear the sound, we can feel the vibrations. For example, you can feel the base of a strong drum, we can also feel the vibrations of flutes and whistles, depending on how tuned in you are to sound.

Using the Shaman drum as a healing modality.

Drumming has been used as a healing modality for centuries. The shamans believe that the drum, aligns the human heart beat, with the heartbeat of the earth. Yes, the earth actually has a heartbeat. They believed dissonance created a sickness or illness that threw the body out of sync. I mentioned earlier that they universe has its own symphony and orchestra, and your body does as well. Only, the conductor of that orchestra is your heart. So the shamans believed that if they could align your heart beat with nature, they could then get the other parts of the body to follow suit and fall into a pattern that is known as entrainment.

The Importance of entrainment when using Tibetan bowls.

The concept of entrainment derives from a mad scientist who did an experiment with grandfather clocks. He placed one huge clock in the middle of the room. Then, he placed a whole bunch of tiny clocks around it. All the clocks were set at different times. He left the room. When he came back, he realized that all the clocks were perfectly in tuned with one another. They all displayed the same time and all the pendulums were swinging in sync.  So what does all of this mean? It means that nature has a rhythm that ebbs and flows. So much like the smaller clocks, we can tap into something that is much greater than us, align with it, and become much much more powerful. This is the whole concept of the Tibetan bowls and the Tibetan singing bowls, these tools gets us to sync up to the natural rhythms of nature. Does all of this sound crazy? Well, entrainment happens all the time.  Women’s menstrual cycle fall in sync, so that they are all happening at the same time. When dancing, people began to move about harmoniously. When we make love, we began to move in sync and entrain to our partner’s movements. You’re always going to align or entrain to the highest vibrating object, or the strongest person in the room. However, this concept gets much deeper.

How deep is deep, the Theta Meditation.

Traditionally, we have a custom in Hoodoo where we summon the ancestors by ringing the bell. We are not summoning ghost, what we are doing is that we are altering our states of consciousness. Just think of alternate levels of consciousness as changing the channels on your television or radio dial. Different channels allow you to hear different things. The first channel is the Beta channel. This is the channel where things are moving very fast. This channel allows you to hear fast waves and loud sounds. The second channel is the Alpha channel; this is the channel of slower waves. On this channel, you’re more relaxed, you’re in a daydream state, or light meditative state. This is the veg out channel, where you can just watch TV and listen to music and just relax. Then, there is the Delta channel or the Delta state of consciousness. This the Deepak Chopra state of mind, where you can be in a deep meditative state for hours. Just imagine a monk setting in lotus position and meditating. You can throw things at him and nothing is going to break his meditation. Lastly, there is the Delta state of consciousness, or the Delta channel.

Understanding Brain Wave Entrainment.

Delta channel is very much misunderstood to people in the Modern world. Western doctors have summarized this state of being one of comatose, where a person is knocked out, or just out of it. Only, indigenous people have been known to go into Delta mode and still be conscious. In fact, shamans do much of their long-distance, and hands on healing work while in this state. Delta mode allows you to connect with a force that is much deeper. It allows you to connect to the congenial mind, or the interconnected consciousness that we all share. For example, Michael Jackson was an average singer, he didn’t have the vocal range of an opera singer. However, he was able to sing his words while in a state of Delta. By doing this, he was able to connect with people from all parts of the world. Stephen King is not the best writer; he’ll tell you that he is not the best writer. However, he is widely successful because he wrote his words while in Delta mode. So when you create words in Delta mode, you’re creating resonance. This means that people can feel you and hear you on a level that goes beyond their five senses. There is a reason why you love that song. There is a reason why you can’t put that book down. There is a reason why you can’t stop thinking about that movie, long after it’s over.  There is a reason why you gravitate toward some spiritual leaders and not others. The artist’s work, resonated with you. He made you feel something that went beyond your five senses, and now you’re inspired, in spirit, because that artist created a feeling of transcendence. Does that sound crazy? Well, orca can communicate with each other across huge spreads of water, dolphins and seals can do the same thing. So it is not just about what you’re saying. It is more about the state of consciousness that you’re in, when you’re saying it.

Delta mode is the best state of consciousness for spell creation and writing.

I believe that people get really caught up in the mechanics of magic, manifesting, and spell casting. This prohibits them from entering into a state of consciousness that is going to allow them to connect with the rest of the world. Most importantly, they never gain the power  needed to cast effective love spells. Most of us have a difficult time getting into a meditative state. This is why we need training tools such as tuning forks and Tibetan singing bowls. These tools create sounds, with wave lengths that are very similar to Delta. By using these tools, we are then about to entrain with the sound, and fall into Delta mode where we can then cast our most powerful spells.
